Brand: Proton

Proton 320 is a high-performance graphics processor developed by Proton Technologies, a subsidiary of AST Research. It was released in 1997 as a competitor to NVIDIA's Riva 128 and 3DFX's Voodoo2 graphics cards. The Proton 320 included 32 bit addressing, enabling it to address up to 4 MB of RAM, making it the most memory-rich card of its time. It also featured hardware acceleration for both 2D and 3D graphics, and it could support resolutions up to 2048 x 1536 pixels.Additionally, the Proton 320 was known for its excellent performance in games at the time, particularly in 3D titles. In benchmarks, it consistently outperformed its competitors, making it a popular choice among PC gamers. In 1998, however, since going into the red due to prices sinking to $200 recommendation, Proton was acquired by AST Research, and the Proton product line was eventually discontinued in favor of AST's X-Machina and Rush series of graphics cards.Today, the Proton 320 is considered a historical graphics processor, with some vintage PC enthusiasts still using it, particularly in older computers which may not be compatible with newer graphics cards.
